TIFU but the police won't tell me how

I share an office with four other people on a university campus. We each have our own desktop computer, owned by the college, and I use mine for teaching and working on my doctoral dissertation. Today, as I was quietly working alone in my office, the IT graduate assistant asked to come in and look at some of the computers. Oddly, he only ended up going onto my computer for about fifteen seconds and then left. I asked if something was wrong, or if I could help somehow, and he said he was just checking up on all the computers in the department. About five minutes later I heard someone knock on the door again, and the same grad student is back with two police officers. They point to the computer I use and ask if it's mine. I respond saying it's university property, but that I've never seen anyone besides me use it. I add that there's a chance someone else may have used it before, since it's a shared office and I'm not in the office 24/7. They attempt to make small talk and talk away the computer, maintaining that they can't tell me anything about what's happening.

Now that they're gone, I'm trying to recall anything out of the ordinary that may give me a clue as to what's going on. I rarely download anything (and nothing illegal, not even music), and all my files are saved on an external hard drive. The only bizarre moment I can think of was about a month or two ago on another computer in the same building (in the classroom where I teach a class). I use this computer twice a week to show material to my class, much of which is saved under bookmarks in my Google Chrome account. One day while teaching, I noticed all my bookmarks were in place, but I was logged in under someone else's name. Later, I looked up the name and found a recent article about someone with the name moniker who was arrested for possession of narcotics here in town. Besides that, I'm pretty clueless as to what could have caused the police department to get involved. Updates if anything progresses, all inquiries are welcome.

TL;DR The police took my office computer, but I don't know why.
