I've been seeing someone for about six months. I've met only a few members of his family so far, including his biological father, but none of his family from his mothers side (they have been divorced since his childhood). His family has been expecting his grandfather to pass very soon, so yesterday while I was stuck all night at work I quickly glanced through my Facebook news feed during some downtime before closing. I noticed one of his family members I did not recognize posted something on his wall wishing her extended family condolences about their mutual "uncle" and tagged a dozen people in it. I foolishly proceeded to assume it was an unexpected death of one of his uncles. I felt horrible, since we had a spat the night before over something stupid, and he was already expecting his grandfather to pass. I called him apologize about the night before, and of course, about his uncle passing. Then, the bombshell:
"It was my dad.."
His step-father. Had a heart attack and dropped dead. I don't think I've said as many apologies in one 10 minute phone call then I did then. I'm still cringing every time I think about what I said.
TL;DR: I'm an idiot. I hate Facebook. Does anyone recommend any sturdy shovels?
