I feel terrible for turning down a date with a really cool guy just because I don't like his beard. Do you sometimes feel bad for being superficial?

I would totally go out with that guy if he cut his long dirty hair and shaved some of his huge unkempt beard. I've seen old photos and he was really good looking up until last year. Thing is, his current style turns me off. Of course I'm not gonna tell him that.

I know I don't have to be attracted to anyone, but this seems like such a superficial thing to refuse a date over, and I feel bad for not seeing beyond this. I could be attracted to him but I'm not. My friends are giving me grief because he's really cool and nice (I think so as well) and likes me a lot. I feel terrible for not giving him a chance. I feel like I'm being mean and superficial and like I have unattainable standards in general.

Has it ever happened to you? Do you have an explanation to this? There has to be one.
