I work at a well known grocery store as a cashier. Today was our busiest day of the week, due to it being Sunday and it was raining. A fellow cashier and I have a rivalry between us where we try to one-up another. She goes in the lane next to me, so I assume she is opening. I, being the asshole I am, decide she doesnt need any breaks since I didn't have any, and told the last lady in my line to go ahead to the other lane. Apparently something had spilled in the other lane and the cashier went to clean it up. The other lady can't jump back in my line since it is filling up. She waited a good fifteen minutes to get checked out instead of the five it would have taken me to scan all her stuff.
TL;DR: Tried to make a customer's wait shorter, made her wait triple the time.
