This was two years ago and it still is a touchy subject for her. For months my wife kept looking around the neighborhood telling me about all the great trees in other people's yards. Which then after escalated to multiple visits to local nurseries just browsing trees, and then going so far as to join a tree forum online to get the exact perfect tree for our damn yard. After month 5 I decided for the sake of my sanity I would oblige her and get her one. We ended up going and my wife literally ran to this "black gum" tree with red leaves she had been obsessing over and then yells at the nearest employee to package it up and bring it to the cashier. At the counter the man rings me up and I pull out my wallet. "I'm so sorry, I only actually have tree-fiddy on me."
